Discover how Washington United Migrant is promoting cultural identity and belonging among migrant children through a new ArtsWA-funded project that celebrates Latino traditions from an early age.
Washington United Migrant has been selected by ArtsWA to develop a cultural project that strengthens the roots, identity, and imagination of Latino migrant children and their families. This initiative celebrates cultural traditions as a key tool for emotional wellbeing, learning, and intergenerational connection.

Why Is Cultural Education Important?

Migrant families often face the weakening or loss of their cultural roots upon arriving in a new country. This disconnection can affect children’s emotional development and self-esteem. Strengthening identity
from early childhood is essential to building a sense of belonging, cultural pride, and resilience.

What Are We Doing?

We are designing a creative and participatory educational experience that highlights the stories, myths, legends, and artistic expressions of our communities. The approach is playful, accessible, and deeply connected to the reality of Latino migrant families.

What Impact Do We Expect?

We want every migrant child to recognize themselves as part of a rich and living cultural heritage. This project aims to strengthen intergenerational bonds, spark imagination, and support the development of a positive identity in migration contexts.

A Message from WUM

This new step reaffirms our commitment to education that not only informs but transforms, connects, and celebrates the roots of those who migrate. We thank ArtsWA for making this community-rooted proposal possible.
We continue planting culture, identity, and community. Migrant to migrant.
