Thanks to the support of King County and Best Starts for Kids, Washington United Migrant has launched a new project focused on early childhood development and mental wellness for migrant families with children ages 0–5.
This project reflects our commitment to supporting families during the earliest stages of parenting, recognizing that the first years of life are critical to building strong, healthy futures.
Why Focus on Early Childhood?
The first five years of life lay the foundation for learning, mental health, and overall wellbeing. For migrant families, this period often occurs in contexts of uncertainty, stress, or social isolation. That’s why providing timely, culturally relevant, and accessible support can make a meaningful difference.
What Are We Doing?
Through this project, we are creating safe community spaces where parents and caregivers of young children can receive information, emotional support, and practical tools. Our approach fosters connection, fear-free parenting, and emotional care in a trusting environment.
What Impact Do We Seek?
We want migrant families to feel not only supported, but empowered to care for their children’s emotional health from the very beginning. Our goal is to build strong, healthy futures from the roots, prioritizing community wellbeing and early prevention.
A Message from WUM
We firmly believe that investing in early childhood is investing in the future of the entire community. We are deeply grateful to Best Starts for Kids for trusting our work and allowing us to keep moving forward—migrant to migrant—in support of family wellbeing.
