Washington United Migrant (WUM) is proud to receive funding from the Washington State Department of Health through the HEAL Act Workplace Safety Grant to support workplace health and safety for farmworkers impacted by climate change.

Through the project Farmworker Safety under Climate Impact, WUM will provide tools, training, and outreach to help build resilience and advance health equity within our community. This initiative will be implemented in Yakima, Washington, reaching farmworker communities directly impacted by extreme weather conditions and environmental risks.

As part of this initiative, 10 community promotoras will be trained to lead outreach efforts and engage a total of 75 participants through a virtual workshop focused on workplace safety and climate-related risks. Participants will also receive safety kits with essential items to support their personal protection.

In addition, WUM will distribute 200 extra safety kits through direct outreach in agricultural work areas, ensuring that critical resources reach farmworkers where they are.

This project reflects WUM’s commitment to protecting the health and well-being of farmworker communities while addressing the growing impacts of climate change through culturally responsive, community-led solutions.
