Washington United Migrant (WUM) is honored to receive a three-year grant from the Washington State Department of Health through the Washington State Perinatal Collaborative.
This support strengthens our work connecting migrant families to perinatal mental health care in Pierce and Thurston counties, expanding access to culturally responsive services for pregnant women and new mothers.
Through this initiative, 48 pregnant women and mothers with children up to one year old will participate in virtual sessions focused on perinatal mental health, creating a space for learning, reflection, and community connection.
Participants will also be connected to local resources that support emotional well-being, including mental health services, support groups, and community-based programs. In addition, a group of participants will take part in a self-care activity designed to promote well-being and connection.
As part of this effort, six community promotoras will receive specialized training to provide follow-up support, including home visits and direct connection to resources for participating families. To further extend the impact of this project, WUM will develop a five-episode Spanish-language podcast sharing accessible information and tools related to perinatal mental health.
Through this initiative, WUM continues to expand access to care, strengthen community-based support systems, and promote the well-being of migrant mothers and their families.
